[STYLE] CLOTH SURGEON MAPHIA FAMILIA UNVEILS DEBUT CAPSULE “A FRIENDLY GHOST“ COLLECTION 001
Founded between London and Venice, Maphia Familia is a bold project presented by Marco Scarpi, a young Italian designer with the objective of combining research and exclusivity. First and only one of its kind in Italy, Maphia Familia creates unique pieces (1/1) reworking the taste of rare vintage garments coming from all over the world. The collection, a result of a sharp vintage lookout, includes 90’s original t-shirts with iconic rockstars such as Led Zeppelin, Ozzy Osbourne, Cypress Hills’ rare merchandise, and a varsity jacket straight out of 1977.
Every garment is reworked through a process of manual screen printing, using the design that best suits the item of clothing. Every graphic masks a different meaning or a story, often more complex and convoluted than what it may look like. Quotes inspired by poetry and music are matched with historic pictures and symbolism, such as the skeleton that has now become Maphia’s trademark. The origin of the skeleton, as Scarpi explains, stems from a line of the song “Casper the friendly ghost”, written by the tormented poet and musician Daniel Johnston. Sporting the trademark skeleton makes you become a friendly ghost that everybody love because people love you better when you are dead.
As the song speaks,
“Nobody treated him nice while he was alive, you can’t buy no
respect (…), but everybody respects the dead, they love a friendly ghost.”
