INTERVIEW: OLAMI STILL
Who is Olami Still?
Yeah I’m Olami Still, Mr Glide, Mr Flex Like Dat, Mr I don’t care about a hater! Right now I’m just representing for all the young fly rappers in London and doing my thing
What has been your greatest achievement to date?
All my songs being played on the big radio stations. BBC 1xtra, Capital Xtra, Kiss.. all of that is just a blessing especially when you’re young and independent and coming where I come from.
Who are ‘TipTopForLife’ and how did the collective come about?
Tiptopforlife is the independent label set up by my bro Martinet Soldier. We’re a family, I been dropping my music under myself and Tiptopforlife since 2015. I was introduced to Martinet and I choose to work with him because I could see his passion for music, he’s been giving me advice and pushing me every day ever since.
What was the creative process of creating the first song that introduced you into the public eye, ‘Call on Me’?
I wanted to make a song for the girls but I still needed it to be me. I was watching the Jay Z – Girls Girls Girls video and I saw how he had different girls in every scene. So I was like I’m gonna name drop different girls in my song and have a different model in the video every time I mention them.
Which artists do you draw most of your musical influence from?
There’s a lot of rappers in the US scene I respect like Biggie, 2Pac, 50 and the UK too but I wouldn’t say I got a main influence, I just do me
Describe your sound in 3 words.
Infectious, real and smooth
What is your greatest fear?
Not being successful, that’s like the worst fear, I ain’t really scared of much things but yeah that would be worrying.
Where do you see yourself in 5 years?
In every Spotify library, Apple music library or whatever they’re gonna be using to play music in the next 5 years
When is your next project set to be released and what can fans expect from it?
This year, you can expect more bangers, more songs with topics I haven’t touched on before and new sounds and styles of music too
Name 3 things you cannot live without.
Family, God & my phones, probably music as well if I could add one more
