Lacing wavy rap productions with uniquely rhythmic melodies, Huntington Beach, CA artist Yung Pinch is surfing on his own wave. Accumulating millions of streams since the drop of his 2017 #FREEYUNGPINCH EP, including over 10 million Spotify plays on “When I Was Yung,” a mainstay on the service’s Clout Culture playlist, Yung Pinch is building an unstoppable momentum as he hurdles towards his next project, sure to be his biggest yet.
In the midst of a 34-city North American tour, Pinch films a music video for “1997.” The black-and-white video finds Pinch reflecting on what it means to put on for his hometown while traveling the country, as he poses in front of and on top of his tour bus. Footage from some of his shows also appear. Released as part of Pinch’s #4EVERFRIDAY series, “1997” is a bite-sized slice of bubblegum rap brilliance, with Yung Pinch rocking an addictive cadence over a beat from Charlie Handsome (Post Malone, Travis Scott). It is an excellent distillation of what makes Pinch special: sugary melodies and clever rhymes over breezy, beach-ready instrumentals.
