[NEWS] DR. DRE ATTENDS EUROPEAN PREMIERE OF UPCOMING DOCUMENTARY, ‘THE DEFIANT ONES’ IN LONDON

Dr. Dre followed his surprise guest appearance at Anderson .Paak’s Tuesday night one night only show, by attending the premiere of his upcoming documentary, The Defiant Ones.

Held at The Ritzy in Brixton, 300 special guests watched the first episode of the four-part series which premieres on Netflix, Friday 23rd March. The documentary tells the story of both him and Jimmy Iovine’s unlikely partnership from the early years of The Chronic right through to the inception of Beats by Dr. Dre. The series won Best Music Film at the 2018 Grammys.

A host of special guests from across the worlds of music and sport attended, and The Ritzy has never seen such a turnout out of die-hard fans who lined the red carpet to see the iconic Doctor. Long time friend of Jimmy and Dre, will.I.am attended, along with rappers Avelino and Akala, singer-songwriter Laura Mvula, model Neelam Gill and rugby player Danny Cipriani.  Footballers Marcus Rojo and Eric Dier also came down to Brixton for the night. Jimmy was also joined by his wife Liberty Ross.

Following the screening, Dre and Jimmy were joined onstage by the director of the documentary, Allen Hughes and took part in a Q & A hosted by Beats president Luke Wood.  The notoriously private Dre opened about why he wanted to do the documentary and the creative process behind it.
On the reason for his long-standing success, Dre puts it down to one thing – determination; “it’s a determination to being successful and do what I love to do. Fortunately, I picked something that can make money, but that’s what it is, hardcore determination to be successful.”
On his creative chemistry with Jimmy Iovine; “I think that comes from our friendship and knowing him for so long. There’s a certain amount of trust in that. Knowing him for so long and knowing how creative he is, it’s a natural process”

On The Chronic; “Shopping this record around, everyone was turning me down. I decided I wanted to do my record with live music instead of samples.  I thought I was onto something but you never know. I’m taking it around everywhere and nobody is interested in me. Of course, I’m in my 20s and I thought I had something. Then I met Jimmy and everything changed. “

Following the premiere, guests enjoyed an after party at recently opened members club in Brixton, The Department Store.
