Artist: 21 Savage
Project: Issa Album
This week, 21 Savage released the visuals for ‘Nothin New’, track no. 8 of his debut album, ‘Issa Album’, which received favourable reviews and debuted at no. 2 earlier this year.
21 Savage admits,“They thought I only rap about murder and pistols”. Yet his latest is politically charged, shining a light on racially & politically motivated events & figures in the spotlight recently; defining events in modern-day American culture.
The video features a speech from President Obama on racism in America, former NFL player Colin Kaepernick & LeBron James also features along with live clips from events in Ferguson, a city that has been at the forefront of both national and international news over the last few years. Charged with consciously-hardened lyrics we are not accustomed to hearing from 21 Savage, this track shows a solemn side to the artist.
Produced by Zaytoven, ‘Nothin New’ sees Savage spill his cutthroat Xan-like flow over a beat that sounds like it was stolen from Future’s vault. With the video ending as 21 concludes narration of life in America today.
An intriguing cut from 21 Savage… check it out below.
