Artist: Earthgang ft J.I.D
Song: Meditate
Project: Rags
Director: Chad Tennies & Mac Grant
Dreamville’s newest recruits Earthgang are back at it again, marking their induction to one of Hip Hop’s most influential and talented labels by delivering us the visuals to the new track, ‘Mediate ’, from their latest EP, ‘Rags’.
Featuring stablemate, J.I.D, who’s currently basking in the glory of his critically acclaimed album (and huge co-sign from Yasiin Bey himself), ‘The Never Story’, this video is dope.
The movie-esque introduction to the video begins with the three escaped convicts, chained and running from the law, with J.I.D coming in straight off the cuff. Within seconds, you can’t fail to appreciate how J.I.D’s dope flow and melodic concoction of lyrics greets the track.
What’s crazy is Johnny Venus of Earthgang has a very similar tone of voice and quickly flow grabs the lyrical baton from J.I.D and spews his uniquely unconventional bars all over the track. Whatever label you put on these guys’ sound, they definitely take pride in owing and mastering that sound.
J. Cole is not only a great rapper, he’s clearly got an ear for great artists and he’s building the empire to back it. This political conscious and racially charged video which only further empowers the lyrics. So, get watching, this doesn’t disappoint.
