The good people over at Selfridges have teamed up with Shakespeare ReCITED in a mission to rethink Shakespeare’s poetry, wordplay and lyricism, reinventing his canon through personal experience and stories of the everyday.
Each performance will be underpinned and celebrated through a progressive and unexpected product collaboration, specially commissioned ‘tour merchandise’ – both fashion statement and souvenir – have been created that are inspired by the words of our greatest writer, and co-created by participating musicians and a selection of chosen designers. The first collection to emerge from the wide reaching collaboration comes from Liam Hodges, James Messiah, Boy Better Know’s DJ Maximum and Preditah.
25-year-old MAN alumni Liam Hodges has become one of the most exciting names in London menswear since his debut. His capsule, consisting of a T-shirt, sweatshirt and shirt are inspired by the typography of classic hip-hop labels such as Ruff Ryders Entertainment and No Limit Records, and the skull-based designs from heavy metal tour merch. Prices start at £50 for a limited edition lanyard to £120 for an oversized printed shirt.
As part of last night’s launch event, poet James Massiah performed three individual poems as part of a wider narrative throughout the course of the evening, over ambient breaks in the music played by DJs Maximum and Preditah.
